Genericide at Law Glossary

What is it? This occurs when a trademark starts out as distinctive or descriptive, but then though use becomes generic. This occurs when the mark becomes part of the common descriptive name of a category or genus of products. Genericide is more likely to happen to marks that are used improperly as nouns instead of adjectives, whether such usage is by the trademark owner or by others.
